Instrument Scenery Sets (Copyright 1994 John M. Trindle)
For Microsoft Flight Simulator 5.
This file contains the North Central 2 Region, version 1.05.
This means the navaids and airports involved in instrument
approaches in Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri are included.
How to use:
----------
Unzip this file into your \FLTSIM5\SCENERY directory.
ISS files provide the approach navigation aids, runways, weather
reporting and aircraft placement data for Microsoft Flight
Simulator version 5.0.
These files add ILS, LOC, LDA, and SDF data, as well as marker
beacons. Very few NDBs or VORs need to be added.
The approach lighting is a generic rabbit system, with Runway
End Identifier lights and 3 degree VASI.
All navaid and runway placement is based on FAA data. Where
the runway heading contradicts the published ILS approach course (and
there is no documented offset in the approach plate), the runway is
rotated to line up with the ILS. These differences are the results of
different vintages of navaid versus runway survey data.
You may place yourself near the threshold of any runway in the
ISS data set. Airports are grouped by state, and named by the nearest
city.
Weather information is available on a valid advisory frequency for the
airport. The frequency used with usually be the designated CTAF
(Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for the airport. When in doubt,
try the ATIS/AWOS frequency, Tower Frequency or Unicom/Multicom
(122.8, 122.7, 122.95, 122.9). Weather can be received within
15 nautical miles of an airport.
Troubleshooting:
---------------
Symptom: Invalid response when tuned to ILS frequency.
Approach: Use the Nav menu to check the identification of the navaid
you have tuned. It may not be within the flying area, or you may have
an inappropriate frequency tuned. In addition, some airports have
multiple approaches on the same frequency. Using the Nav menu will
allow you to choose which approach should be used.
Symptom: Excessive pauses
Approach: The NC2-ISS4.BGL file contains the radio information and
placement data. If you remove this file or tune the COM radio to an
unused frequency, the pausing may be reduced.
Symptom: Unable to tune exact COM frequency.
Approach: Make sure you can tune to the nearest 0.025 MHz. This
option is handled in Preferences. The frequency may be listed
as 119.925, but is processed and displayed by the program as 119.92.
Symptom: Conflicts with existing scenery.
Approach: None of the navaids included in the DEFAULT FS5 scenery are
included in ISS packages. However, the navaids may conflict with other
add-ons. The work-around is to move the add-on or ISS data into another
directory when not in use. Managing your SCENERY directory will help to
minimize pauses during the simulation.

v1.01 addressed ILS reception problems in the original files.
v1.02 reduced "floating aircraft" problems and reduced Type 2
file size.
v1.04 adds displaced thresholds and the proper variety of approach
lights. Boundary problems in some western areas have been solved,
and much of the "floating runway" or "floating airplane" problems.
v1.05 restores Runway numbers, which have been missing since the
beginning. Oddly, no one reported this error.
